About IBDE
Our Programs
IBDE Web Essentials is a six-month, online web design program that teaches participants how to create websites for selling their own products or services on the internet, or as a web designer for other small businesses.
Students are provided with one-on-one assistance through instant messaging, email, phone, and LIVE interactive classes in our virtual classroom. We have one intake per year (spaces are limited), and are now accepting applications for the next program intake, starting in the fall of 2012.
We also offer the IBDE Web Advanced program from June to October to any graduate of the IBDE Web Essentials program or web designer with the required prerequisite skill level. Advanced courses can be taken individually or as a whole.
IBDE is accredited by Selkirk College in Castlegar, BC, and the Canadian Society for Social Development (CSSD) coordinates delivery of the IBDE programs.
Students completing the six-month IBDE Web Essentials program receive a certificate in Web Design and Optimization, and students completing all four core IBDE Web Advanced courses receive a certificate in Advanced Web Design and Optimization.
During IBDE Web Essentials participants put their new skills to work by creating a fully functional e-commerce ready website, either for their own business or for another small business or local community organization. Students' websites are then showcased in the Virtual Mall of Canada.
The skills learned during IBDE form the basis for establishing an affordable home-based web design business, in as little as six months, or participants can seek employment with other web design firms. Many participants enrol in IBDE, because it gives them the opportunity to build and maintain a website for their own business, where they can sell their own products or services online.
IBDE allows participants to learn at their own pace, in the comfort of their homes from anywhere in Canada. Students are encouraged to network and liaise with their instructors and other participants while developing beneficial relationships with the local business community.

Program Fees and Other Costs
The fee for the six-month IBDE Web Essentials program is $3,995, which includes all accompanying training materials. An additional fee of $500 for Adobe industry-standard Design Premium CS5.5 software applies. Funding assistance may be available for qualifying individuals in your local community. A computer (see computer requirements), internet connection, and a domain name and web host for the final project website are the responsibility of the student.

Other Online Training Opportunities Offered by CSSD:
In addition to gaining web development skills, students who self-identify as living with a disability can also participate in Business Abilities, a free, online self-employment program for entrepreneurs. In Business Abilities you will develop your business plan and receive training in marketing and business management and the support of your very own personal business coach. Services are available for up to one year while you establish your business.
